                  EMS COUNSELING PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY

 
The mission of Elizabeth Middle School’s School Counseling Department is to provide all students with a comprehensive, developmental guidance and counseling program. The program is centered on engaging curriculum and services that encourage the highest level of achievement through student growth in academic, personal/social, and career competencies. As the student advocates, school counselors partner with other educators, parents, and community members to create a caring environment in which all students may become responsible learners and decision makers as they prepare for the future.
 
 
 
We Believe
·         students are our highest priority
·         in the importance of focusing on the whole child
·         all students are unique, and when given a safe, nurturing environment, will succeed to their
          highest individual talent and potential
·        all students have the right to individual student planning that addresses their goals in academic,
         career and personal/social development and are encouraged to pursue their options
·        all students’ ethnic, cultural, racial, sexual differences and/or special needs are considered
in planning and implementing the school counseling program
·        School Counselors are advocates and catalysts for the growth of and support for every student;
         fostering student connectedness with students,staff, and families creates the possibility for
         transformation and success
·        in the fundamental values of honesty, respect and responsibility and that every student has the
   right to be heard and treated with dignity
·       
 And that our School Counseling Program

all students have the right to a credentialed school counselor who is accessible, collaborates with other educators, families, and the community, as an advocate for student success in a timely and effective manner
 
 
·        reaches every student
·        is comprehensive in scope
·        is proactive in design
·        is an integral part of the educational program for student success
·        utilizes the American School Counseling Association (ASCA) National Standards as the foundation
         for a guidance curriculum that supports academic, career and personal/social development
·        ensures a delivery system that provides school guidance curriculum, individual student planning,responsive  services and system support
·        is implemented by credentialed school counselors and is conducted in collaboration with students, other educators, families, and the community
·        uses data to drive intentional guidance activities and to advocate for systems change
·        monitors student progress
·        collects and shares process, perception and results data and analyzes critical elements
·        seeks improvement each year based on results data
·       
And that all School Counselors will:

celebrates success!
 
 
·        design, implement and evaluate the comprehensive school counseling program that aligns to the district’s strategic plan
·        abide by the professional school counseling ethics as advocated by the American School Counselors Association
·        participate in professional development activities essential to maintaining a quality school counseling program
